Sunday, June 11, 2023 – Nick Taylor has given Canadian sports fans a moment they’ll never forget. Taylor sunk a 72-foot eagle putt on the fourth playoff hole at Oakdale Golf and Country Club to defeat Tommy Fleetwood and become the first Canadian to win the RBC Canadian Open since Pat Fletcher in 1954.

After shooting the composite-course record on Saturday, Taylor recorded eight birdies in his final round on Sunday good for a 6-under 66. Fleetwood, playing in the final pairing, grabbed a piece of the lead after back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17. He would par 18 to send the tournament to a playoff, the first since 2017.

In the playoff, both Taylor and Fleetwood exchanged birdies on 18, followed by pars on 18 and 9. The fourth hole went back to 18. Fleetwood’s drive found a fairway bunker while Taylor’s second shot gave him a putt for eagle. As the rain continued to fall at Oakdale, so too did Taylor’s eagle putt to clinch victory and send the euphoric Canadian crowd into a frenzy.

O Canada bellowed from the gallery as Taylor hugged his caddie, a champion on the PGA TOUR for the third time.

Taylor becomes the first male golfer to win the Canadian Junior Championship, Canadian Men’s Amateur and the RBC Canadian Open. Brooke Henderson is the only other Canadian golfer to complete the same feat, having won the Canadian Junior Championship, Canadian Women’s Amateur and CPKC Women’s Open.

Friday, June 9, 2023 – Corey Conners shot a 3-under 69 and sits in a four-way tied for second, one back of Carl Yuan after two rounds at the RBC Canadian Open. Conners holds the highest 36-hole position by a Canadian since Mike Weir in 2004.

Friday’s second round started with rainy and cold conditions, but the weather turned for the better and the leaderboard is taking shape heading into the weekend. The cut line is set a 1-under with 75 players making the cut.

After starting the day at even-par, Tyrrell Hatton shot the composite-course record, firing an 8-under 64. Hatton recorded nine birdies in his round to join Conners, Aaron Rai and C.T. Pan in a tie for second at 8-under. The composite course is made up of 18 holes from the 27 available at Oakdale Golf and Country Club.

This week, Mike Weir made his 30th start at the RBC Canadian Open. Weir now sits tied with Gordon Brydson in second, two behind George Cumming for the most starts in tournament history. Weir shot a 2-under, 70 on Friday to make the cut for the 11th time in his career. Weir is one of eight Canadians to make the cut. The highest number of Canadians to play the weekend since 2002.

PATRICK GREENMAN RECEIVES HONOUR AT RBC CANADIAN OPEN
Oakdale Golf and Country Club’s Director of Property Management Patrick Greenman was presented with the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) National Tournament Award on Friday. CGSA Vice-President John McLinden presented Greenman with a plaque in recognition of his efforts for hosting the 2023 RBC Canadian Open at Oakdale.

SPECTATOR PARKING FOR THE RBC CANADIAN OPEN
Due to extremely high demand of pre-paid parking, RBC Canadian Open spectator parking at Downsview Park is now completely sold out for Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11. Spectators traveling to the RBC Canadian Open are encouraged to utilize TTC services, rideshare/car hire and to please consider carpooling.  As a reminder, there is no public parking onsite at Oakdale or in the surrounding neighbourhood.

Via TTC:
Subway:               Downsview Park Station is the nearest subway station to Oakdale Golf & Country Club. Spectators will be able to access a free shuttle from Downsview Park to the golf course and the concert site.
Bus:                        Oakdale Golf & Country Club is accessible via multiple Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) bus routes to the Jane Street at Troutbrooke Dr stop · 400 m (5 min) walk.

Rideshare/ Taxi:
Ride share vehicles and other for hire vehicles will be directed to a designated area just off of Jane Street, steps from the golf course and the concert site. The ride share drop off is on Troutbrook Drive.

RBCxMUSIC CONCERT SERIES CONTINUES ON SATURDAY
Returning again, as part of the RBCxMusic Concert Series, is the SiriusXM Stage; it features local acts who have the chance to perform in The Fare Way, a hub for spectator activities that promote more than just golf. On Saturday night, following the golf, two local artists get the opportunity to shine. Luna Elle and Skye Wallace perform on the SiriusXM Stage before fans turn their attention to headliner Alanis Morissette later tomorrow night.

Wednesday, June 7, 2023 – Two-time defending champion Rory McIlroy is ready to make history in defence of the RBC Canadian Open title at Oakdale Golf & Country Club.

The world’s number three ranked player will lead a field of 156 of the world’s best players looking to become the first player in history to win three consecutive titles.

“Any time you can come back and defend a title sort of wherever that is in the world, it’s nice to be able to do that, said McIlroy. “Obviously the Sunday last year was, to me, one of the probably one of the best experiences I’ve ever had playing on TOUR. Battling it out with JT and Tony down the stretch. Rosie was on course trying to shoot 59. There was a ton of low scores. Battling with those two guys. JT and Tony being two of the best players in the world. Coming out on top. Yeah, it was really nice. Nice to be able to defend a title. I felt like the support I got out there was absolutely amazing and I’m looking forward to playing in that sort of atmosphere again this week.”

OPENING CEREMONIES KICK OFF AT 6:30 A.M.
The opening ceremonies for the 2023 RBC Canadian Open will begin at 6:30 a.m. and will include a blessing of the land, National Anthem, and a fly over by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds. The opening ceremonies will conclude with a ceremonial tee shot from Wilf Homenuik. During his career, Homenuik won eight international professional titles, two Canadian Professional Golfer Association (CPGA) championships, two CPGA Match Play Championships for the Millar Trophy and eleven provincial titles. Nine of the 27 holes at Oakdale Golf and Country Club are named after the club’s long-time teaching professional, known as the Homenuik nine. Homenuik was inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame in 2005.

Tuesday June 6, 2023 – The start times for the 2023 RBC Canadian Open Championship Pro-Am at Oakdale Golf & Country Club for Wednesday, June 7 have been released.

The event will see 104 professional golfers take to Oakdale to entertain a field of 208 amateurs as part of the PGA TOUR’s ‘Nine and Nine’ Pro-Am format where amateur participants will play nine holes each with a pair of PGA TOUR professionals. Click here for player start times.

CANADIAN GOLF HALL OF FAME WELCOMES NEWEST INDUCTEES
Golf Canada and RBC hosted the return of RBC Hall of Fame Day on Tuesday, June 6 as an official kickoff event for the 2023 RBC Canadian Open in an outdoor ceremony. The Canadian Golf Hall of Fame welcomed former PGA TOUR player Jim Rutledge as well as the late legendary golf writer, Robert Stanley Weir as the 84^th and 85^th honoured members of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame.
