Thursday, August 24, 2023 – Yuka Saso shot a 6-under 66 to set a Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club tournament course record and leads by three after the opening round of the 2023 CPKC Women’s Open.
Saso began her round on the back nine and shot an even-par 36. She recorded four straight front-nine birdies to close with a 6-under 30. Her round of 66 breaks the previous tournament record of 67 set by Michiko Hattori during the 1988 Canadian Ladies’ Amateur Championship at Shaughnessy. Saso sits atop the leaderboard, one shot ahead of Linn Grant who sits at 5-under 67.
Alena Sharp of Hamilton, Ont. leads the Canadian contingent and sits in a tie for third after shooting a 3-under, 69 on Thursday morning. Team Canada amateur Brooke Rivers of Brampton, Ont. shot a 1-under, 71 and sits T13.

The tradition returns on Friday with the annual Red and White Day at the CPKC Women’s Open. Spectators, volunteers, and attendees on site are encouraged to wear the nation’s colours while cheering on the Canadian contingent chasing a LPGA Tour title on home soil. BROADCAST TIMES
